Term 2 Newsletter

26 April 2023,

Kia ora to our community

Welcome back everyone to the start of Term 2. I hope you all had a restful and relaxing time with your whanau and friends.

In Term 2 the important focus for our akonga/students will be on their academic engagement and attendance. These two factors are key to a successful year. We are tracking the progress of our akonga throughout the term to make sure we maintain high standards and build on the positive momentum from Term 2.

We will see the return of winter sports across a range of codes involving many of our akonga. It will be exciting to play in a variety of competitions throughout the term. We look forward to the positive support of our whanau and friends when we play at home and away.

Over the term break our 1st XV team travelled to Melbourne for a successful two game tour. They won against Xavier College and Iron Armour Academy. We now look forward to the challenge of 1A Championship.

We welcome two new staff members to Tangaroa College. Mr Vincent Chandra will join our PE/Health Department and Ms Ayeh Wadood will join the English Department.

We congratulate Rykien Rowe (Year 13) who was selected by the Antarctic Heritage Trust to visit South Georgia, Antarctica for 3 weeks later in the year. He presented an outstanding application along with another student from Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate. It is exciting to have two young people from our community provided this exciting opportunity.

As you will be aware the PPTA has not been able to settle the teacher pay claim with the MOE. Therefore, industrial action will be in place for Term 2. We will keep you informed about what this looks like for us throughout the term.
