Tangaroa College Health Science Academy Alumni

Talofa lava, my name is Jean Laumata Wilson and I am currently working a as a nurse at Middlemore Hospital. I graduated Tangaroa College in 2015 and was a part of the programme from year 11 through to year 13. I am also currently undertaking postgraudate studies at the University of Auckland to further my career options in terms of specialised nursing.

Growing up, I have always felt drawn towards the medical field. Studying nursing was a never a choice of career, but if anything, being a part of the HSA has constructed my love and passion for Nursing.

My biggest motivators have always been my parents. They have sacrificed so much to give me the chance to build my wings and grasp opportunities that I otherwise would not have. My high school teachers (Tangaroa college) especially in year 13 have played a huge part in my education. I owe it to them for bringing out the best in me and making it out the other end. Without the love and support from my high school teachers, I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing today. I personally think that nursing is the most rewarding career a person can hold. And this is one of the many reasons why I chose to be a nurse.

Being a part of the HSA program is not only mind opening, but it also provides you with different opportunities to discover new careers and explore you interests and passion in what you see yourself doing in the near future.
