At Tangaroa College we value our students as individuals. We believe each student has the potential to be successful – yet the personal achievements of each student will be different.

Our curriculum offers students a wide range of academic courses, work skills programmes, learning experiences and activities to develop their mental, social and physical skills.

We work with our students to help them discover their individual interests and abilities, the challenge of learning and the confidence that comes from achievement.

  • Our timetable is structured to give students the widest possible choice to meet their individual needs.

  • Our academic programme prepares students for NCEA (Levels 1, 2 &3). They can also earn credits towards other National Certificates and Diplomas.

  • Our employment skills programme prepares students for the world of work. They earn credits towards the National Certificate in Employment Skills.

  • A pathways programme in Year 12 and 13 matches learning options to the individual student’s interests and strengths. Subjects are grouped to focus learning towards a specific career path or tertiary study option, eg. Music, Physical Education and EOTC, Carpentry and Engineering.

  • Multi-level study allows students to study subjects at different levels, i.e. a combination of Year 11, 12 and 13 subjects.

  • Tutor periods help students develop cognitive learning strategies and supports them in setting goals for life-long learning.

  • The academic dean will offer students the opportunity to set individual achievement goals and develop a programme of study to achieve these goals.
